There is a wide-spread misconception that historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) does not prepare their students for life after college. That’s the furthest thing from the truth as studies show HBCUs represent less than 3% of colleges and universities in the United States, but confer 40% of all STEM degrees and 60% of all engineering degrees, educate 50% of African American teachers and 40% of African American health professionals, and 70 percent of African American dentists and physicians earned degrees at HBCUs. SIAC schools in particular attracts well-known achievers in politics and the arts to speak at college events such as Former president Barack Obama, congressman John Lewis, and even political commentator Marc Lamont Hill.
An Opportunity to Play Men’s Volleyball
As we see men’s volleyball conferences begin to develop around the country, we continue to ask ourselves how we can support this growth and development. As the first HBCU conference to sponsor men’s volleyball, we pride ourselves in offering the chance to help to build the pipeline for American Olympic success. We are looking for motivated, talented, and courageous young men that are looking to take their game to the next level. If this is you, join us today!
HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents. These institutions train young people who go on to serve domestically and internationally in the professions as entrepreneurs and in the public and private sectors.
